Abstract

Research Objective: This study examines the economic impacts of green energy projects on local communities in Nigeria, focusing on job creation, income generation, and economic multipliers.

Methodology: The research employed a descriptive survey design to assess the economic impacts of green energy projects. Data were collected and analysed to measure the effects of job creation, income generation, and economic multipliers on local communities. The analysis included examining the significance of these factors using beta coefficients and t-values.

Findings: The study found that:

  • Job Creation: The transition to renewable energy has a significant positive impact on job creation within local communities, as indicated by a beta coefficient of 0.455 and t-value of 0.504.
  • Income Generation: There is a strong positive effect of green energy projects on income generation in local communities, evidenced by a beta coefficient of 0.550 and t-value of 3.826.
  • Economic Multipliers: The economic multiplier effect of green energy projects also shows a positive impact, with a beta coefficient of 0.341 and t-value of 0.624.

These results demonstrate that green energy projects are contributing positively to the economic growth of local communities in Nigeria, fostering job creation, enhancing income levels, and generating significant economic multipliers.

Conclusion: The study concludes that green energy projects have a profound and beneficial economic impact on Nigerian local communities. The shift to renewable energy sources has led to increased job creation, higher income generation, and broader economic benefits, all of which contribute to the overall economic development of these communities. By transitioning from traditional energy sources to green alternatives, Nigeria is not only advancing environmental sustainability but also promoting robust economic growth at the local level.

Recommendations:

  • Support for Local Entrepreneurs: The government should provide targeted support for local entrepreneurs and small businesses in the renewable energy sector to further stimulate income generation and local economic development.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Continuous monitoring and evaluation of the economic impacts of green energy initiatives are essential to understand their effectiveness and to make necessary adjustments for maximising benefits.
